29 Faces - Day 6

Welcome to day 6 of 29 Faces.  I have been allowing myself to play with my not-so-used-often supplies.  There will obviously always be your favorite things to work with, and for me at the moment is charcoal pencil and a 9B graphite pencil.  I normally use them to sketch the image once I have laid down the background colors and also use it a lot within the shading - they are great.  Along side gesso, which can give you some lovely textures.

Day 6 of 29 faces

This painting has been done as my front cover on a journal I made recently for The One BadAss Art Journal which you can still sign up for if you want to join us!

You don't have to complete a full painting for this challenge, you can just do sketches if that is what you have time for.  I have also used it to help me complete images that have gone unfinished, use it to work for you and remember to have fun!

29 Faces for the month of February!

I really can't believe that I haven't posted here for so long.  I apologize for those of you who have come to see what I have been up to art wise and have turned away disappointed because I was no where to be found.  I have had many changes take place over the last year, many tough decisions had to be made and then life just came and happened as it does and my focus was elsewhere.

I plan to revive my postings here and I hope that you are blessed and it inspires or encourages you or both to get your creative self moving and make something, paint, whatever the materials, just do it.

I have updated my side bars and you will see the courses that I am currently teaching in.  The Journey within - a One year Art Journal JourneyThe One BadAss Art Journal a twelve week adventure to uncover the you that has been trying to get out...lol and I am a guest artist on Embrace Your Art 2016.  Click on the links to find out more.  I will also be sharing some of the images I produce both here, and you will find the more tutorial based projects at my Inspiration, Art and Creativity Blog

For the month of February I am taking part in the 29 Faces, hosted by Ayala Art and I will be sharing the daily faces here, its a great way to get your creative juices going and take some time out to practice either something your familiar with or try something new.  I am using it as a way to help me utilize some of the materials that haven't been used for a while and see how it will inspire me.  I do hope you join in, stretch yourself and you may even surprise yourself.

As it is day 3, I will show you want I have so far.

Day 2 of 29 Faces

Day 1 of 29 Faces
I hope you come along and play, and create your own faces, it's not too late to start!  Check out some of the courses and see which one or both you may want to try.  The great thing about the classes are you don't need to worry about falling behind, it is entirely about your journey, so you can pick as much or as little as you like to get you going.

Looking forward to reconnecting with you, stay blessed and be a blessing!

Creating takes time - New Work

I shared on my creativity blog snippets of these paintings on water colour paper, but thought I would share the full size here.  It is amazing how quickly time flies and before you know it you have a handful of paintings that are not quite complete.

I managed after a long time to get away from trying to complete a painting in one go, unless it is a small piece and say in an art journal, and even then because I like working in layers you usually have to wait and take your time to add the next layer.

I hope you enjoy them, let me know what you think, and what you are working on!

Being Grateful - New Art

 What's in the bag
What's in the Bag

I express daily gratitude that I am able to spend time being creative and share my work.  Here are some of the artwork from my Gratitude's and Celebration Journal that I work in each week.

It is a reminder to stop and think about not only what we have but what we do with what we have on a daily basis.  Click on the image to be taken to the page.

Art Series 1

Mixed Media Painting
This painting has a combination of paints, stamps, inks and washi paper on watercolour paper, slightly different from my usual style.

Mixed Media - with bead embellishment

This painting was done on sari material that had paper sandwiched between.  It is quite flexible, and I finished it off with some journaling and beads

New Art - Art and Creative pursuit

Here is some art that is mostly from my gratitude and celebration journal.  I work in it once a week writing about the things that I am grateful for and create a painting, or something that expresses how I am feeling.  I think that it is important that we regularly to take time and stop to think what things that particular week have impacted on our lives and what we are grateful for.

Creating Change

I have been playing around with the Gelli Plate which you can purchase at Amazon, you can also see how I made my own and use it HERE to create  backgrounds.  I used my prints from the plate and created some paintings, and here are a couple that I did recently.

The Gelli Plates allow you to create lovely color combinations on your surface.  These two paintings were done on watercolor paper.

New Art - A bit of creativity every day

Time has really flown since my last post, and I am getting myself organised to share more frequently the work that I have been doing.

Here is some of the most recent work I have done from Life book and Soul Food courses that I have been doing. I will also be sharing over the coming months some work that I will be doing for the Bloom True - Flora Bowley course, It is a 5 week course, with access after the course for 6 months, the next course starts May 12th – June 14th, 2014, so go on the waiting list to get more information!

This piece was inspired by the session led by Ayalaart.  It is the combination of two paintings.  The hat or crown was actually the roof from one of my Memories of Home series and I think that it was made for the image, she has decided that she will go to the party!

Going to the Party - mixed media
It has been a long time since I used a palette knife, and thoroughly enjoyed the session led by Heather Santos.  I have used the palette knife, stamping and collage on this piece.

I did this one in the session that Marieke Blokland shared, and my piece is called 'Sweety Pie'

I am looking forward to sharing more pieces tomorrow.  Do let me know what you have been up to, blessings!

29 Faces - Day 22 - 28

Well I got to the end of the challenge, it has been quite full on for me as I was also doing a couple of courses and also doing the 'I love you today challenge' which also looked at sketching every day during the month of February, mostly self portraits from images throughout my life, some of me as a child, and I have done a post on my reflections HERE.

29 Faces challenge was a great way for me to do more faces and try out different techniques, some that I really liked and some that I might not really use again.  It was also great (as it always is) visiting other blogs to see how other people have approached the challenge and find inspiration through their style and techniques tried.

I really encourage you to take the step and if you want to see your creativity expand to take part in a challenge and start posting and sharing your work.

So here are my days 22 - 28, I am still going to be drawing on a regular basis as there is always room for growth.

Day 28
Final day, my final face for the 29 Faces Challenge.  I finished off with a fine liner and promarker pen, looking for an opportunity to grow in my use of shading and skin tone.

Day 27
Capturing older faces, and expressions, because there are so many more lines in an older face there is so many different techniques you can try.  Will do this one again, using more colour.

Day 26
A combination of promarkers and fine-liners also looking at patterns

Day 25
Playing with faces, better to spend 10 minutes a day doing a sketch than not doing anything.  I think I will use this face in a future painting.

Day 24
Wanted to do something more futuristic, then this young man showed up.  Not sure which planet he comes from, but he comes in peace!

Day 23
These were images that I also used in my Gratitude's and Celebration journal, quite smaller scale and trying to capture expressions.

Day 22
I don't draw enough men, so keeping the practice up, quick sketch to keep the hand in.
